Ellen Gozion will host a 4-hour crankie-making event. A moving panorama, or crankie, is an illustrated scroll housed in a box with a viewing frame. The dowel supporting the scroll is cranked to advance the scenes.
Supplies: All supplies will be included.* Participants will contribute to a group project that will be performed at the Pittsburgh Crankie Fest and will learn a little about crankie-making in the process. You do not need to stay for the full four hours, though you should allow yourself enough time at the workshop to complete (alone or with a partner) a single 22″x18″ panel.
Theme/Content: Participants will be invited to create images of what home means to them, of journeys that take one away from home, things that call one home, things that draw people together, peace and connectedness, and maybe how singing together connects us and creates a place of healing and acceptance. The finished crankie will accompany “Here Is My Home” by Si Kahn, to be sung by Brendan Taaffe and the crankie fest audience. Participants in the workshop do not need to be present at the Nov 16th Crankie Fest. Admission fees for the Fest are on a sliding scale | Tickets go on sale SOON at brownpapertickets.com | ellengozion.com |
*Experienced artists may wish to bring their favorite painting/drawing/collage supplies. Please no oils, no pencils, no paper board or heavy paper materials as we are making a back-lit scroll.
