Artist’s Statement
I paint primarily in oil on either canvas or panels. My paintings are mostly abstract. When I am working, I paint on the floor and turn the canvas or panel around. This helps me stay more abstract. My education was in music. I became a music teacher and played the cello. But I was always drawing and sketching. I started taking art classes at the age of 49. Within a few years I found myself mostly painting abstracts. I never paint while listening to music. I would only listen to the music and not be able to paint. But after some paintings are finished and I am trying to find a title, I often hear/remember some music. Some of my paintings are titled with the composers name because I hear that music when I look at the painting. I have synesthesia and sometimes when I am at a concert listening to music, I “see” abstract images. That explains the title of the Bach Partita Series. There are additional series of my work in oils and watercolor at my studio. Visit my website patriciakellyartist.com for more information and purchase inquiries. – Pat Kelly
