Saturday’s October 7th, 14th and 21st 10:00 am – 12:00pm $75 per child for the series.
For children ages 8 to 14 and children ages 4 to 7 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This three-session art workshop offered by LUNA (Learning Urban Nature through Art) features art activities and techniques inspired by the shapes, colors, textures, and topography of the natural world. Each week, an art technique will be paired with an aspect of the local environment.
October 7th Nature’s Quilt: Leaf Collage (Sunprints and Rubbings)This session will emphasize the diversity of trees and leaf shapes in our local environment. We will gather leaves to make sun prints and leaf rubbings. These will be used to create individual collages, which will be pieced together to create a “quilt.”
Oct 14 – Flower Power: Designing Nature FlagsThis session will contrast organic and geometric shapes and patterns found in the natural and built environment. We will create geometric backgrounds using tape and paint on flag material. Participants will make stamps and stencils of native flowers and apply over the background to create colorful nature flags.
Oct 21: Nature Journaling – Seeing it all, the big and smallFor our final session, participants will be introduced to nature journaling, observing both the details of trees, flowers and animals by “zooming in,” and larger details by “zooming out.” Participants will add rubbings, tracings, drawings and written observations to a large piece of paper that will be folded and cut to make a booklet.
